Bowls Club

Cape Paterson Ecovillage and Cape Paterson Bowls Club are currently finalizing an agreement to locate the Cape Paterson Bowls Club at the Ecovillage. The developer will provide an accessible and usable footprint for the bowls facility and the club will pay for the development of the facility. The agreement will provide for the long term leasing of the site from the Ecovillage into the future for a small nominal rent to give the Bowls Club ongoing security of tenure at the site.

There has been strong local interest for “lawn bowling” at Cape Paterson without the formality of a formal competition bowls club. The concept behind the bowls facility is to provide an informal, relaxed, drop in, user pays social bowls facility aimed at people of all ages, very similar to the popular St Kilda Bowls Club in Melbourne. It will cater for fully employed people, students, children and retired people. The bowls club will be located near to the community hub buildings with cafĂ© facilities, as well as toilets and storage areas. Rather than a conventional square grass green, it is intended to construct “mini bowling greens” made of an outdoor carpet or synthetic grass type construction. The facility could be used as a spill over practice facility for other bowls clubs during the months of May to September.

The landscaped setting for the bowls club will be aesthetically beautiful, interfacing with nearby wetlands. It will be accessible by paths and roads from the entire Ecovillage and township. The relaxed, recreational nature of the club is an ideal fit with the philosophy of the Ecovillage and provides another recreational outlet for the people of Cape Paterson.
