Ecorestoration works at the Ecovillage will be carried out by Australian Ecosystems, an environmental restoration and ecological consulting company founded in 1997, built on a vision of protecting and enhancing biodiversity in Australia. Throughout the late 1990’s it took the form of a group of friends working together to build a nursery and planting one plant at a time in wetland restoration projects around Melbourne. Since then the company has grown to employ around 80 staff, including botanists, horticulturalists, landscape architects, weed control specialists and environmental engineers.
Australian Ecosystems is Victoria’s largest environmental restoration company and one of the largest in Australia. We work to restore degraded landscapes and reestablish indigenous plant communities that are functional, biologi-cally diverse, high in habitat and aesthetic values and that are ecologically viable in the long term. We provide five core areas of service - consultancy, nursery, revegetation, wetland and landscape management.
We have worked on over 400 land restoration projects over the past 7 years, covering Heathland, Saltmarsh, Swamp Scrub, Grassland and many types of Woodland and Wetland communities.  We collect local provenance seed, grow, plant and maintain over 3 million plants per annum on land restoration projects around Victoria. We operate a state of the art nursery at the Eastern Treatment Plant in Melbourne that uses recycled water and we have successfully produced over 400 different species of indigenous plants. Australian Ecosystems has been part of four national Urban Development Industry of Australia environment awards as well as a Banksia award for our work in building and protecting biodiversity around housing projects. For more information visit our website at www.australianecosystems.com.au or visit our nursery in person - call 0412 198974 to arrange a visit.
